Visit the World-Famous Koala Hospital

Port Macquarie has one of the highest koala populations on the East Coast and is home to the famous Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, the first of its kind in the country. The hospital is run by Koala Conservation Australia who rescues, treats, rehabilitates and cares for sick and injured koalas - 365 days a year.

The Koala Hospital welcomes visitors seven days a week with over 100,000 people passing through its doors every year. Many don’t realise that wild koalas are in crisis and could become extinct by as early as 2050.

At the Koala Hospital, you can take a guided or self-guided tour of the koala yards, see the koalas being treated in the hospital, and learn how to care for and conserve Australia's unique and precious wildlife. Visitors can also ‘adopt’ a koala that is unable to return safely to the wild, providing them with a lifetime of compassionate care.
