The Big Golden Guitar was erected in 1988 and unveiled by Australian country music legend Slim Dusty. It weighs in at half a tonne and stands 12 metres tall. The shiny gold icon is a replica of the famous Golden Guitar Award and a symbol of the world-renowned annual Tamworth Country Music Festival.

The Big Golden Guitar in Tamworth was designed by artist Harry Frost, who designed the original Golden Guitar award trophy and the concept for the Big Golden Guitar. The 12-metre-high fibreglass and steel landmark was built in 1988 by Len Surtees, in the image of that award.
The Big Golden Guitar is a replica of the famous golden guitar used for Australia's Annual Country Music Awards and stands as a striking tribute to Tamworth's reputation as the Country Music Capital of Australia.
The Golden Guitar stand approximately 12 metres high and weighs over 500 kilograms. It is constructed out of fibreglass and wood over a steel frame, with steel reinforcements.
