Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo is a major tourist attraction located in central west NSW and is sister to Taronga Zoo Sydney. The zoo (Also known as Dubbo Zoo) is an open-range design, with walls and fences replaced by concealed moats which divide the animals from the visitors, creating the breathtaking impression of actually being with the animals in the wild.

Taronga Zoo Dubbo is home to hundreds of rare and endangered animals including giraffes, rhinos, elephants, big cats, primates and lemurs. A guided Savannah Safari tour around the zoo’s five-kilometre circuit is a wonderful way to learn about this amazing facility. Through research, education, action and advocacy, Taronga is leading vital work that supports wildlife, habitats and communities across the globe.

Adventure Awaits at the Zoo!

Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo is a unique, open-range zoo that spans over 300 hectares, allowing animals to roam in expansive habitats that mimic their natural environment. Home to more than 1,000 animals from around the world, the zoo provides an immersive experience for visitors. Some of the most popular residents include the African elephants, giraffes, lions, the rare black rhinoceros and the playful meerkats.

The zoo is known for its focus on conservation and education, with programs aimed at protecting endangered species like the cheetah, the Sumatran tiger, and the snow leopard. Visitors can observe these rare animals and learn about the zoo's efforts to protect these species through various breeding and rehabilitation programs.

Taronga Zoo Dubbo also offers special animal encounters, like feeding giraffes or interacting with lemurs. Australian wildlife is well-represented too, with kangaroos, koalas, and emus among the native animals calling the zoo home.

Dubbo, located in central New South Wales, is 400 kilometres from Sydney and serves as the largest population centre in the Orana Region, at the crossroads of the Newell, Mitchell, and Golden highways.
