
Hunter Valley Gardens in historic Pokolbin was a labour of love created by Bill and Imelda Roche over four years. With the help of a dedicated team of over 40 landscape gardeners, architects and engineers, the gardens opened in October 2003 and have become one of the most significant display gardens in the southern hemisphere attracting visitors from near and far.
The property features eight kilometres of walking paths winding their way through 14 hectares of gardens with over 6000 trees, 600,000 shrubs and over a million ground cover plants. It’s a stunning place to relax in nature. Hunter Valley Gardens is a special place for nature-lovers, gardeners, or those who just want to enjoy the beauty of mother nature.
Pokolbin, in the heart of the Hunter Valley, is renowned for its picturesque vineyards, world-class wineries, fabulous restaurants and top cellar doors like the famous McGuigan Wines. Hunter Valley Gardens tops the list of must-see attractions in the area with so much to offer visitors.
Ten individually themed gardens - Rose Garden, Story Book Garden, Indian Mosaic Garden, Chinese Moongate Garden, Italian Grotto, Sunken Garden, Lakes Walk, Oriental Garden, Formal Garden and Border Garden - are filled with both native and exotic plants.
A stroll through the gardens reveals many surprises along the way like man-made waterfalls, statues imported from around the world and murals designed and painted by local artists.
Hunter Valley Gardens feature a shopping village, Aqua Golf and Putt Putt and old-fashioned carnival rides like teacups and the carousel for the young-at-heart. A popular event is the Christmas Lights Spectacular when the gardens transform into a magical world of light.

Hunter Valley Garden spans 14 hectares (35 acres), the equivalent of 32 football fields.
Food and beverages are available to purchase within the venue. Hunter Valley Gardens Shopping Village is at the entrance to the gardens and offers delicious meals, coffee, snacks and wine.
