At Riversands Wines you’ll find a fascinating bush story in every glass of wine, each telling an entertaining tale of local characters - from explorers to pioneers, to a woman in a washtub! Riversands Vineyards has been in the Blacket family since 1996. In the years since, David and Alison Blacket have developed the vineyards to a highly productive, award-winning standard, serving sparkling, table, and fortified wines, all while raising three boys.
The vineyard is located in the St George Region, five and a half hours west of Brisbane in Queensland’s Southern Outback. Although wine grapes were planted in 1992, the couple initially bought Riversands to grow table grapes but decided to keep the wine venture going. They admit having to learn quickly about both the table grape and wine industries and their dedication over the years has paid off, creating a Queensland wine success story.
Take the inland route from Brisbane to Melbourne, discover quirky characters and hidden treasures along the way. Try your luck for opals in Lightning Ridge, enjoy a wildlife Zoofari at Dubbo's Western Plains Zoo, and visit Miners Heritage Park in Cobar. See the 'Living Desert Sculptures' in Broken Hill and the Old Wentworth Gaol before enjoying a paddleboat cruise on the Murray and a finale night in Melbourne.
Riversands Wines has a well-established reputation in the wine industry. Best known for its delicious fortified muscats and famous port, Riversands also produces a range of dry white and red table wines along with the popular sweet Moscato styles.
The Blacket family invites you to take a personalised wine-tasting journey through the flavours of their full range of wines – from crisp and dry to bold and rich.
The wines are all named after some interesting characters. During a tasting, you’ll hear stories of people like Len Waters, a famous WW2 fighter pilot and Dr Earnest Seidel who grew the first wine grapes in St George.
The wines have consistently won awards throughout Australia, with many like Beardmore's Dry White, Explorers Chardonnay, Major Mitchell White Moscato, Ellen Meacle Merlot and Golden Liqueur Muscat receiving dozens of awards. The winery has also received awards for business, hospitality, and tourism and is well known for its friendly country welcome. As well as the cosy cellar door, there’s a garden café where you can pick a perfect spot, take a seat, and enjoy a glass or two of your favourite wine over a delicious lunch, or try the popular scones with homemade grape jam and cream.
