Included in the Lonely Planet’s 'Top 10 Regions of the World' list for 2022, the Scenic Rim is within easy reach of Brisbane and is perhaps one of Queensland’s best-kept secrets. With six national parks, World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests, eco-adventures, paddock to plate experiences, farm gate tours, boutique wineries, and craft breweries, you can see why you should visit the Scenic Rim.
The Scenic Rim region is less than an hour’s drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Leave the city behind and escape to a spectacular landscape with extensive hiking trails and scenic lookouts at Binna Burra, O’Reilly’s Retreat at Lamington National Park, and Mt Barney. You’ll need a car to get around the Scenic Rim; this is a spot that makes for the perfect self-drive adventure or small group Scenic Rim tour. The main country towns you’ll want on your list are Boonah, Kalbar, Canungra and Mount Tamborine. Each offers a selection of boutique shops, markets, local producers and great dining; all served up with genuine friendly country hospitality.
Discover the rainforest canopy on a treetop walk, hike to thundering waterfalls, or take a morning trek to watch the sunrise from one of the many peaks across the region. You’ll feel miles from anything in the Scenic Rim whilst having the world at your fingertips.
If you’re a foodie who wants to learn more about what’s on offer, how it’s produced and more, book in for the Scenic Rim’s Eat Local Week. For two weeks each June, the region's local producers throw open their farm gates and share their passion.
One of our favourites is the long lunch at the Overflow Estate Winery (you can enjoy a long lunch here with us on our Booze and Bowls in the Granite Belt tour). From organic beef and finger limes to camel milk ice cream and goats cheese, the food here is as diverse as the natural attractions.
