K'gari Explorer Tour (formerly Fraser Island Explorer Tour) is a one-day adventure through a World Heritage-listed wonder.
This off-road adventure will take you through tall rainforests with rare king ferns growing (amazingly) in the sand. You’ll drive along 120 kilometre beach, the island’s ‘beach highway,’ discover sheltered bays, and climb Indian Head to spot sharks, dolphins, stingrays, turtles, and schools of fish. You’ll learn the history of the Maheno Shipwreck, once a luxury cruise liner. The ship washed ashore in 1935 and is now one of the most photographed icons on the island.

On the tour, you’ll stop at Lake McKenzie - Fraser Island's famous swimming spot. Although the island is completely formed by sand and surrounded by salt water, it has more than 100 freshwater lakes, streams, and tributaries. Lake Mackenzie is one of the most beautiful on the island and its white silica sand shore and crystal-clear blue water invite you to wade in and cool down on a balmy Queensland day.

In 1992, K'gari (Fraser Island) was inscribed on the World Heritage List in recognition of its natural values and in 2007, it was one of 15 World Heritage places included in the National Heritage List.
Along the way, your Fraser Island Explorer Tour guide will share stories of how Fraser Island was named K'gari by its people at least 5,000 years ago. The name comes from an Aboriginal Dreamtime story about a goddess named K'gari who fell in love with the earth and never wanted to leave. Most people who visit the island today feel the same way.
