We depart on our opulent ‘Diamond Class’ coach from Brisbane CBD travelling responsibly knowing all coach emissions are 100%offset. Travelling south down the coast to Yamba for lunch, our afternoon then takes us through Coffs Harbour to Port Macquarie.
This morning, we bid farewell to Port Macquarie’s scenic coastal charms. We take a break in Bulahdelah before reaching Lakes Entrance for a seaside luncheon. Afterward, our journey leads us along the picturesque Bulli Pass, where we pause to take in the breathtaking vistas. Our afternoon brings us to Kangaroo Valley, a tranquil haven with rolling farmlands against awe-inspiring cliffs.
Leaving Kangaroo Valley, we journey through stunning natural landscapes, embracing the captivating Shoal haven Coast via Nowra and Ulladulla, known for its pristine beaches and ever-changing vistas. A refreshing break awaits in Batemans Bay before we head to Bega, home of the renowned Bega Cheese Heritage Centre. Enjoy a delectable lunch and savour exquisite cheeses while exploring the rich dairy history of the Bega Valley. Continuing eastward, we join the Sapphire Coast Drive, passing through Bournda National Park’s natural wonders, culminating in the coastal gem of Merimbula.
This morning, we explore the Sapphire Coast, arriving in Eden. There, a guided tour of the 85-year-old Killer Whale Museum, perched on the Pacific shores, unfolds. Learn about 1800s whaling and meet ‘Tom’ the Killer Whale through his full skeleton on display. Crossing into Victoria, we traverse East Gippsland’s timber-rich landscapes before reaching the charming Lakes Entrance, our next enchanting destination.
After a relaxed start to the day, we join a leisurely cruise past the entrance along the North Arm on our way to Wyanga Park Winery. Upon arrival, we enjoy a sumptuous lunch paired with local wines. This afternoons’ journey takes us through Sale, travelling south of the Strzelecki Ranges and along the South Gippsland Highway to the township of Yarram. We continue on to the coastal fishing village of Port Welshpool, taking a look at the restoration project of their famed Long Jetty which was built in 1927. Then it is only a short drive to the agricultural hub of Foster.
Today we journey to Wilsons Promontory, often called ‘The Prom’, which marks the southernmost point of mainland Australia, boasting breathtaking coastal landscapes and untouched wilderness. Our adventure begins with a cruise from Tidal River into Bass Strait, where Victoria’s first marine national park thrives. Encounter Australian fur seals, diverse birdlife, and coastal dolphins and whales. We pause for afternoon tea at Fish Creek before returning to our lodge, having experienced the natural wonders of this unique region.
Our journey leads us to Wonthaggi, where we delve into the rich history of the Wonthaggi State Coal Mine Heritage Area, once a vital coal supplier for Victorian Railways. Lunch brings a taste of tradition with a delicious fish and chips meal. Next, we embark on a two-hour coastal wildlife cruise, a remarkable opportunity to get up close with thousands of seals at Australia’s largest fur seal colony. These naturally curious creatures often approach our boat for a closer look. Our adventure continues with a lesson on Phillip Island’s western shoreline history. As day transitions to evening, we head to Phillip Island Nature Park for the renowned Penguin Parade. Watch from premium underground viewing as hundreds of enchanting little penguins, also known as fairy penguins, emerge from the ocean, waddle across the sand, and return to their burrows, creating an unforgettable spectacle at dusk.
Leaving Phillip Island, we embark on a scenic journey, circling French Island and the marine national park, arriving at Sorrento. Here, we catch a ferry across to Queenscliff. Our next destination is Drysdale, where we step back in time aboard The Q Train, which travels along the picturesque Bellarine Railway. As we relish a decadent degustation menu, we take in the rolling hills of Bellarine and immerse ourselves in the train’s rich history.
