Departing on our luxury ‘Gold Class’ coach from Brisbane Coach Terminal on Roma Street, we travel through the Lockyer Valley and continue through Dalby and Chinchilla to Roma.
Departing Roma we travel via outback country towns enjoying a cuppa enroute to Tambo. Enjoy lunch and time at Tambo Teddies before we continue on to Barcaldine where we bed down for the night. Tonight enjoy a Desert Dreaming Dinner, a night filled with indigenous food, dance and song.
Following breakfast at the Desert Dreaming Centre, part-take in authentic cultural journey as ancient and contemporary shared histories come alive through the passion of Cheryl Thompson, descendent of the Yiningai people. The Connecting to Country experience offers an insight into traditional tribal body art and its meanings, dot painting and tribal stories. We then make our way to Ilfracombe for lunch at the historic Wellshot Hotel before finishing our day in Longreach.
At the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame explore five themed galleries and discover outback heritage from indigenous tribes to explorers and stockmen. Enjoy the Stockman’s show and see a live muster and witness the bond between man and animal. Tonight at sunset, cruise down the mighty Thomson River before dining under an outback sky enjoying a camp oven themed dinner & show.
Discover aviation history at Qantas Founders Outback Museum and hear stories of one of the world’s pioneering airlines. We visit the historic 1922 Qantas hangar, then take a guided tour of the 747 and 707 jets. The indoor museum’s interactive exhibits illuminate the history and heritage of Qantas airlines. Later this afternoon we make our way out to Camden Park Station to learn about life on the land with the Walker family. See the 100-year-old shearing shed and historical homestead visited by the Queen in 1970. Witness a magical outback sunset with drinks and nibbles followed by dinner.
Travelling to Winton we spend time at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, the world’s largest collection of unique Australian dinosaur fossils and the most productive fossil preparation lab in the southern hemisphere. Enjoy lunch and a guided tour taking in the Fossil Laboratory collection room and March of the Titanosaurs exhibition at Dinosaur Canyon. Next we travel through Kynuna and on to the Walkabout Creek Hotel – famous for being recognised as the pub in the Paul Hogan movie ‘Crocodile Dundee’. We finish our day upon our arrival in Cloncurry.
Travelling west to Mount Isa we get adventurous at the Hard Times Mine, taking a tour with an experienced miner guide. Kitted-out in overalls and cap lamps we descend into the mine to explore the history of mining. On returning to Cloncurry we learn about the RFDS with a visit to John Flynn Place.
We travel north to Burke & Wills Roadhouse for a break before continuing onto Normanton for lunch. This afternoon we board the Gulflander to take a scenic journey through the Gulf Savannah Bushland. At Critters Camp we disembark and rejoin the coach and travel through to Karumba. We check-in to the only absolute beachfront motel in the Gulf of Carpentaria and enjoy pre-dinner drinks and nibbles overlooking the Gulf Sunset.
Visit the Barramundi Discovery Centre and learn about the live breeding program. This afternoon we take the ultimate Karumba experience aboard the Sand Island sunset dinner cruise. Soak up another sunset over the Gulf of Carpentaria feasting on gulf prawns, nibbles, beer, wine and bubbly.
This morning we travel to Croydon, taking time to explore the old goldmining heritage. Back on the track, we make our way to Georgetown to visit the Ted Elliott Mineral Collection, then depart Georgetown for Cobbold Gorge on Robin Hood Station.
Join a guided walk with a Savannah guide who will provide an informative insight to the geology of the rugged sandstone formations. Cross the new glass bridge and take an electric powered boat cruise and glide through the gorge in almost eerie silence. This afternoon we take a thrilling helicopter flight, soaring over the vastness and beauty of the Gulf Savannah region revealing the true scale of the gorge.
Enjoy a guided station tour and experience a working cattle station. Departing Cobbold Gorge we make our way to Mount Surprise, then transfer by coach to Undara Lava Tubes, checking-in to beautifully restored turn of the century railway carriages or pioneer huts.
Join a local Savannah guide for a tour of the Undara Lava Tubes. Formed over 190,000 years ago from violent seismic action and frozen in time, these lava tubes are part of the longest lava flow from a single volcanic crater in modern geological time. Our afternoon takes us through the scenic Atherton Tablelands to Cairns.
Travelling Heritage Class on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, learn about regional history as the train winds through Barron Gorge National Park and wraps around mountain curves for spectacular vistas. On arrival at Kuranda village, we join the Kuranda Riverboat for a 45-minute rainforest river cruise among Kuranda’s wet tropics. Sit back and relax as your guide point out flora and fauna along the Barron River. Enjoy time at the village markets before returning to Cairns via the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, offering an aerial view of the rain forest as you glide above the treetops. Our afternoon takes us on a Twilight Tour of the Cairns Aquarium.

Our coach tours have a baggage restriction of 17kg per person (regardless of flight and rail allowances) due to our Occupational Health & Safety standards. Our Gold Class coaches have a seat capacity of between 44 and 46, but we cap Gold Class tours at 40 guests per tour. Our Diamond Class tours have a capacity of just 26 guests.
