geology and gemstones. The park is renowned for its rich deposits of thunder eggs—geological formations that are millions of years old, formed by volcanic activity. Roll up your sleeves and dive into the hands-on experience of fossicking. With tools provided by the park, you have the chance to dig for your own thunder eggs. The tour offers a unique blend of land and sea exploration, providing an immersive experience of the region’s natural beauty. Our knowledgeable guide shares captivating stories and insights about the diverse wildlife and the rich history of Bustard Bay, giving us a deeper appreciation for this remarkable area. As we traverse the coastline, we encounter four tidal creeks, each offering its own picturesque scenery and opportunities to spot local wildlife. The adventure continues as our LARC transitions into 4WD mode, tackling the challenging ascent up to the historic Bustard Head Light Station. Here, we step back in time, exploring the lighthouse’s storied past and soaking in the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Departing from 1770 this morning, we make our way south, homeward bound. We break at historic Childers taking time to visit the Palace Backpackers Memorial. After lunch in Gympie, we make our way back to the Brisbane Coach Terminal arriving late afternoon.

Heron Island is a National Marine Park situated in the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. This area is a significant nesting location for two threatened sea turtle species, the Green Turtle and the Loggerhead Turtle. Our tour to Heron Island is in the height of baby Green and Loggerhead Turtle hatching season. During hatching season, turtle hatchlings will erupt from their nests between 25 to 50 metres from shore and make their way to the reef, just beyond the water’s edge. Heron Island is a true coral cay and is ribboned by white sands, crystal clear waters and acres of coral with beautifully coloured marine life. The emphasis is on enjoying natural beauty.
