The journey to Christchurch begins with a magical crossing on the Interislander Ferry, one of the most scenic ferry rides in the world. When I visited, I took the time to sit by the lake with a coffee, just soaking in the scenery. It’s the kind of place where even doing nothing feels extraordinary because the beauty around you is so captivating.
But here’s the thing — it’s not all bucolic serenity. Whether you want to ski the slopes of Coronet Peak or The Remarkables, or raft or go kayaking on the Shotover and Kawarau rivers, there’s plenty of adventure to be had.

An evening aboard the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw is a highlight of any visit to Queenstown.
